6th bdSIG of BTRC and BIGF concluded
The Bangladesh School of Internet Governance (6th bdSIG) came to an end with the participation of Internet experts at home and abroad for the 6th time. A three-day bdSIG was held at the joint initiative of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum (BIGF). BTRC Director General of Systems and Services Brigadier General Md. Nasim Parvez, NDC was present as the Chief Guest while Dr. Hafiz Md. Hasan Babu, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology (Professor) Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Dhaka University and Mr. AHM Bazlur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer, Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Community (BNNRC) were present as Special Guests at the closing ceremony.
Brigadier General Md. Nasim Parvez, NDC mentioned the BTRC has introduced "one country one rate" tariffs to attract foreign investment by increasing coordination among ISPs. Protect the interests of local and marginal broadband Internet customers. Although the number of mobile internet users, in general, is higher, broadband internet users account for 58 percent of the country's total bandwidth.
BTRC is implementing broadband connectivity in telecommunication disadvantaged areas, digitization of education system in government primary schools in disadvantaged areas, expansion of telecommunications, mobile technology and internet-based digital postal service projects in remote, coastal areas. Haor and hilly areas, satellite network projects in island areas, the establishment of high-speed mobile broadband networks in haors and islands and telecommunication expansion activities for underprivileged people in haor and remote areas. He hoped that development initiatives would ensure development connectivity in Bangladesh.
Mr. AHM Bazlur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of BNNRC and one of the founders of BIGF was present as the special guest. He said BIGF is working with the government to expedite the activities of Digital Bangladesh. The BIGF conducts dialogue and discussion meetings with the government on a variety of issues, including policy changes at the international level, for knowledge creation, knowledge conservation, knowledge dissemination and knowledge utilization. bdSIG is also working to strengthen the capacity of stakeholders. He discussed the activities of the IGF and its trajectory from the World Summit on Information Society.
Mr. Mohammad Abdul Haque Anu, Secretary General of Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum welcomed the participants and gave a brief presentation on BDSIG. Certificates were distributed to the participants at the closing ceremony.
