Bangladesh Consultation on Dot-Bangla universal acceptance held
The Bangladesh Consultation on universal acceptance of .বাংলা (Dot-Bangla) was held on Tuesday (February 15) in Dhaka online.
It was organized by Bangladesh Internet Governance Forum (BIGF).
Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar attended the consultation as the Chief Guest.
He emphasized intensifying the progress, which has been started under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, for taking forward the Top-Level Domain (TLD) in Bangla.
BIGF chairperson and member of the parliament Hasanul Haq Inu presided over the consultation as the chair and drew the attention of the Honorable Minister and other stakeholders to take initiative to do the needful as per the suggestions of the meeting.
Jia-Rong Low, Vice President for Stakeholder Engagement and Managing Director, Asia-Pacific; Sarmad Hussain, Senior Director IDN and UA Programs; and Dr. Ajay Data, Chair, Universal Acceptance Steering Group (UASG) were present as the Guests of Honor in the meeting.
They discussed topics including how Bangladesh can move with the issues and responsibilities of the global steering committee.
The Chairman of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Shyam Sunder Sikder, along with Dr. Md. Rafiqul Matin, Managing Director, Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Ltd (BTCL) were present as Special Guests.
They put focus on the technical perspectives of the issue from their respective institutions of the Bangladesh Government in their speeches.
The BGIF had started policy advocacy with ICANN for Top Level Domain (TLD) in Bangla in 2009 from the 4th UN IGF in Egypt. As a result, Bangladesh now enjoys the Dot Bangla Top Level Domain (TLD).
