Community Radios observe World Day Against Trafficking In Persons

Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) and Winrock International aims to raise awareness among the general public and strengthen the role of stakeholders by highlighting the experiences of survivors or victims of human trafficking through community radio programs Supported by Switzerland, Today, July 30, 2021, World Anti-Human Trafficking Day is celebrated through the community radios in Bangladesh.
This year, the theme of the day has been set by the United Nations. “Victims’ Voices Lead the Way”
Amid a global pandemic and growing inequality and massive economic losses, people who have survived and are at risk of human trafficking are being lost. But it is even more urgent now to listen to them because the COVID-19 crisis has increased the risk for them and created more crises. The COVID-19 pandemic has been pushed more than 124 million people into extreme poverty. It puts millions of people at risk of being trafficked. Bangladesh is one of the Asian countries at risk of human trafficking.
So, raising awareness among the general public by highlighting victims' experiences in preventing human trafficking at the local level and to strengthen the role of the concerned stakeholders, the country's community radios celebrated by broadcasting various programs on World Day Against Trafficking in persons.
Among the programs broadcast on the radios was the anti-human trafficking world, read the speech of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the occasion of the day, local news, features, community voice, or general radio talks, survivors or experience, puppet shows, songs, talk shows, magazine shows. Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Member of Law Enforcement Agency, Manpower, Employment and Training Bureau Officer, representatives of the Committee on Prevention of Human Trafficking, representatives of non-governmental development agencies working at the local level, and public representatives
Interviews etc.
The programs focus on the different types and causes of human trafficking, the types and current conditions of human trafficking in the area covered by the relevant community radio, the legal immigration process, the risks, and consequences of illegal immigration, existing laws and penalties to prevent human trafficking, and helpline numbers. Government and non-government organizations and organizations provide assistance (counseling, legal, training, and rehabilitation) to the victims of human trafficking and highlight personal, family, social, and state actions to prevent human trafficking.
